Route: Hanoi – Sapa – Halong - Hue – Hoi An - Sai Gon - Mekong Delta

Duration: 14 days 13 nights

Welcome to Vietnam! The tour guide of BC Family Tour will be welcoming you at Noi Bai airport; it takes us 35 minutes driving to the centre of Hanoi to check-in hotel. Let’s have an overall view of the capital by a “cyclo” visit, which will start around the Old Quarter of Hanoi, stop at Ngoc Son Temple located on the Hoan Kiem Lake (the “Sword” Lake), and at Quan Thanh Taoist Temple. Late afternoon we will enjoy a unique fascinating show of Water Puppetry, a traditional stage art of Northern Vietnam. Dinner and overnight in Hanoi.

If time permits why not fall into the pace of the city with an evening street eats tour. Hanoi is famous for its street food tonight you will try some of the best! Pull up a stool and start with a street-side beer then head through the narrow, chaotic streets of the Old Quarter to have a barbeque dinner of flamed grilled meats, tofu and vegetables on skewers.

Please note! Hotels’ check-in and check-out time is around 12.00 noon. Depending on your arrival time, the program can be adjusted accordingly.

Begin your Story of Hanoi with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Complex where you will hear about the man who led Vietnam’s campaign for independence from French colonial rule. See the One Pillar Pagoda and the Presidential Palace before heading to the Imperial Citadel. Once the apex of regional political power for more than a millennium, the area is now undergoing archaeological excavation and research.  In the afternoon explore the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university and the iconic Long Bien Bridge, followed by a cyclo tour through Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter and a coffee at a cafe. Tonight board your train for Sapa.

Day 3: SAPA

Arrive Lao Cai in the early morning, travel by road about an hour to reach the township of Sapa. After breakfast and a quick freshen up start your story of Sapa. Stretch your legs with a climb to the top of Ham Rong Mountain for a panoramic view of Sapa and the surrounding rugged landscape.  On the descent explore the surrounding orchid gardens and see the flowers in bloom. Later, travel out of town to the start point of your walk to Ta Phin, home to the distinctive Dao (pronounced Zao) community. Take a stroll through the village and surrounding area, stopping to chat to locals along the way.

Day 4: SAPA - BAC HA MARKET (Sunday)
Option 1: Meet your guide this morning and travel about one hour by road to the village of Ta Giang Phin and the start of your adventure. Today you will trek for approximately four hours through terraced rice fields. Along the way you’ll see farmers working in the fields, buffalos soaking in mud pits and children scurrying home from school. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic lookout and then meet a H’mong family who will welcome you into their home for a cup of tea and a chat. You’ll get a first-hand look into their lives and traditions, hear stories, and enjoy a great social interaction. Then continue your trek, walking through more rice terraces with spectacular mountain scenery before emerging on the main road to meet your driver. Then return to Lao Cai station for night train (/bus) back to Hanoi.

Option 2: Bac Ha has the largest market open on Sunday in the centre of Bac Ha town. It has very beautiful colored minorities’ costumes. Here you can meet several minorities such as Flower H’Mong, Black Dao, Nung, Phu la and Tay. The market offers a variety of local products, which can not be found in the other areas. Then return to Lao Cai station for night train (/bus) back to Hanoi.

Day 5: HANOI – HALONG – Overnight on board

Travel about four hours to reach the port of Halong Bay. Called “Bay of Descending Dragons” in Vietnamese, the archipelago of Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site composed of almost 2,000 islands and jungle clad limestone pillars. Hop onboard a traditional junk and over lunch cruise to a secluded corner of the marine park. Spend the next few hours visiting ancient limestone caves and paddling around on sea kayaks.

Rise early for a lesson in Tai Chi or just to enjoy a hearty breakfast. The boat will make its way back to the port stopping at the Cave of Surprises, full of stalagmites and stalactites. From here, it’s clear sailing back to the main harbour and the return drive to Hanoi and the airport for your onward flight to Hue.

On the way back to Saigon, we can stop to visit Cu Chi Tunnels, one of the few remaining monuments to the fierce Vietnam War. We can even crawl a part of the tunnel to experience the real life of the Vietnamese guerrillas, who used to use and live inside this system during the wartime. Return to Saigon late afternoon. Lunch in Tayninh or en route. Dinner by your own arrangement. Overnight in Saigon.

Head to the South to My Tho and Ben Tre, the homeland of coconut and family factories with local products. Stop en route to visit Dong Tam Snake farm and Vinh Trang pagoda. Stop at some families and their small factories. Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight in Can Tho.

A highlight of trips to the Mekong delta is its floating market, whose activities are most exciting in the early morning.
